Joselyn Small Wall Sconces
Wrought iron chandeliers, hanging metal lanterns and rustic industrial wall fixtures are great for warehouse and loft-style settings. However, by switching out lightbulbs for candles, you can completely transform the look and style of the lighting fixture.

There are 3 ways to do this:

  1. In some lamps, you can change out regular bulbs to flickering candle bulbs.
  2. Use regular wax candles instead of light bulbs.
  3. Switch to battery-operated flickering LED candles that are controlled either on a timer or by remote control.

Whichever way you decide to do it, the flickering light of a candle definitely adds an extra level of ambiance that a traditional lightbulb cannot provide. On the flip side, wax candles and the LED variety don’t illuminate as well. In other words: don’t plan on using them for reading.

All that said, there is no reason why you can’t incorporate both types of lighting into your home. In fact, the newer LED flameless candles work especially well for mood lighting. Not to mention, tabletop centerpieces, night lights and decorative wall sconces where you don’t need bright light.

LED Candle Sconces?

For example, these LED candle sconces pictured on the left include flameless candles that operate using AA batteries. They can be set on a timer, so they automatically come on for 5 hours each night without you having to remember to turn them on.

What’s cool is that candle lamps like these are designed to look realistic, constructed with real wax and enclosed in glass hurricane shades.

You don’t have to worry about electrical wiring or unattended flames catching fire. These are easy to “install” and inexpensive operate, especially with re-chargeable batteries.

Other Options…

Having now seen these candle sconces in a real setting, you might wonder, “Couldn’t I just use LED candles with regular wax candle sconces?”. The answer is yes!

Wall sconces and battery-operated candles can be purchased completely separate from each other, letting you easily customize the lamps in your home. For example, are you looking for pieces that are more rustic? Natural? Industrial?

Choose from branch-shaped fixtures, old weathered lanterns, sculpted wall art and more. Here are some examples:

What About Candles?

As far as flameless candles go, you have several options. For example, you can get pillars, votives, taper candles and smaller tea lights. Plus, they come in a variety of sizes, styles and colors.

Cheaper brands will typically be made of plastic and be flat across the top with no kind of styling to them. As more realistic features are added, such as a wax coating, a waved top, wax drip marks and real-looking wicks, prices will go up. At this point, you can save money by purchasing flameless candles in bulk.

You can buy full-featured battery-operated candles with automatic timers and/or a remote control switch. These features not only make the lights much more convenient, but they can help extend the battery life because timers automatically turn lights off for you. (Are you forgetful?)

Besides providing a rustic, industrial feel, flameless candles are an easy way to incorporate positive feng shui design into one’s home without having to move around a lot of furniture. Flames are well known in feng shui for providing movement in a home, similar to running water or pets.

Some people use a fireplace to achieve the movement that flames provide, and some people go as far as installing an electric wall-mounted fireplace. Therefore, you can get the benefits that flames offer without having to burn wood in a traditional hearth.
